John McDonald, JD, MBA
Managing Director
John McDonald joined MPM in May 2005 from Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. where he was Vice President of Business Development. In his six years there he had responsibility for evaluating, structuring and negotiating mergers and acquisitions and securing strategic alliances - among them, Millennium's ex U.S. collaboration with Ortho Biotech/Johnson & Johnson for VELCADE, the restructuring of Millennium's relationship with Schering-Plough Corp. for INTEGRILIN, the acquisition of Cambridge Discovery Chemistry, the sale of Millennium's interest in its CAMPATH joint venture, and the in-licensing of oncology compounds from BZL Biologics and Xenova Group, Plc. Prior to that, Mr. McDonald worked at both Genentech, Inc. and Genzyme Corporation where he led or participated in various business development transactions, including alliances with BioMarin (Aldurazyme), Xoma Corporation (Raptiva), IDEC Pharmaceuticals (Rituxan), Roche, Cambridge Antibody Technology, Leukosite, and Pharming Group. He was an attorney with Cooley Godward from 1989 - 1993, specializing in M & A, IPOs, and small company representation. John holds a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of Law, and an M.B.A. and a B.S. Phi Beta Kappa from the Haas School of Business, U.C. Berkeley.
