Kurt von Emster, CFA Managing Director, Portfolio Manager

Kurt von Emster joined MPM in November 2000 to extend MPM's healthcare investment presence into the public markets. As portfolio manager of the MPM BioEquities Funds, Mr. von Emster invests in public life science companies and late-stage private companies. Prior to MPM, Mr. von Emster spent 11 years with Franklin Templeton Group as a Vice President and Portfolio Manager managing over $2 billion in health and biotech funds, including the Franklin Biotechnology Discovery Fund and the Franklin Global Health Care Fund. Mr. von Emster holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation (CFA), is a member of the Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR), and is a member of the Security Analysts of San Francisco (SASF). He has a degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara in Business and Economics. Mr. von Emster has been a guest lecturer at Stanford's Graduate School of Business and other academic institutions, and is on the advisory boards of several biotechnology industry and health care boards.
